Entry test Erasmus Incoming Students
The ITALSTRA – School of Italian Language and Culture for Foreign Students is pleased to invite you to the Italian placement test (entry test). The test will assess your current level of Italian and allow us to place you in the most suitable Italian Crash Course class.
To make it easier for everyone to attend, the test will be held on two dates. Please attend ONE session only:
• Tuesday 6 October 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm
• Friday 9 October 2026, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Venue: Auditorium "Giancarlo De Carlo"
Monastero dei Benedettini – Department of Humanities (DISUM)
Piazza Dante 32, 95124 Catania
HOW THE TEST WORKS
The written test will be taken on a digital form. We therefore recommend that you bring your own electronic device (a laptop or tablet, fully charged), which will make the test easier and quicker to complete. If you do not have a suitable device, don't worry: a limited number of paper copies will be available on site.
Where necessary, the written test may be followed by a short oral test (a brief conversation with one of our teachers), to confirm your level and assign you to the most appropriate class. Please plan to stay until the end of the session.
PRACTICAL RECOMMENDATIONS
• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start, so that we can begin on time.
• Bring a valid ID document or your student card.
• Make sure your device is charged and connected to the internet.
TEST RULES
The placement test is not an exam: there is no pass or fail. Its only purpose is to place you in the class that best matches your real level, so that you can make the most of the course. For this reason, during the test it is strictly forbidden to:
• copy from other students or communicate with them in any way;
• use translators, dictionaries, AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT) or any other online resource;
• use your mobile phone, which must be switched off or set to silent and put away;
• open other browser tabs or applications apart from the test form.
Answers obtained with external help would place you in a class that is too difficult for you. Please answer honestly and on your own: if you don't know an answer, simply leave it blank or choose the option you think is most likely.
If you have no previous knowledge of Italian at all, please attend the test anyway, so that we can place you in a beginners' class.
